this interview is a bgi deal, it's been a long time since Obama has done one of these (Barbara Walters, where she asks him about his sex life, doesn't count). I'm looking forward to it.
What sometimes happens is that we wait to see what Gregory does, and then criticize him for it, since he is the villain. And wait to see what Obama does, and then cheer him for it since he is the hero. It is Obama vs. Gregory, we are waiting to see Obama "smack down" Gregory.
Instead of that (which imo is kind of dumb), how about discussing what such an interview is supposed to be, what the two people are supposed to do and see if they do it?
Obviously there is no reason to expect Gregory to turn into Amy Goodman overnight. He is the epitome of the kind of journalist that cares about preserving access more than anything else. Amy is a honey badger, she don't care.

(27,461 posts)i'm sure he's not the only one that did it, but it was his "thing", was to play video of what the interviewee had said in the past, and ask them to square what they said then with what they're saying now. Tomorrow Gregory could do that with Obama, playing what he said about FISA pre-2008, compared to his very different position now. There's not much hope he will do anything like that, but we'll see...

And now we are subjected to his idiot, clueless son.

(2,097 posts)I'm not expecting the president to call the GOP obstructionist.
I'm not expecting him to point out that 2/3 of House republicans voted for the Budget Control Act.
I'm not expecting him to remind viewers that last year Boehner characterized the fiscal cliff deal as getting "98% of what I wanted."
I don't expect him to take Social Security off the table. I don't even expect him to note that SS has nothing to do with the deficit.
I'm not expecting him to state teh obvious: that he just won an election that also increased Dem seats in the House and Senate, and that the reason was clearly that a majority of Americans support raising taxes on the rich and saving the safety net.
In short: I don't expect much.

(27,461 posts)I'm not expecting all of that ether, but it is very possible that we are both wrong, he might very well say some or all of that. Unfortunately I agree with you we can't count on him to do it.
I thought it would be more fair to say in advance what our yardsticks are. Yours are very reasonable things to expect from a Democratic president.
