Large numbers of pissed-off people are all that has ever brought about significant change in this country.
Pissed off people ended slavery, secured women's right to vote, made civil rights the law of the land, broke up the trusts, elevated environmental protection to a national policy, insisted that gay people be treated equally and that health care be made available to (nearly) everyone.
Sure, politicians eventually passed legislation which made these changes "the law", but they were simply reacting to the DEMANDS---not polite requests---of a whole lot of angry citizens who were willing to get and STAY in their faces until they did their jobs.
Tax the rich.
Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
Outlaw assault weapons and all ammo clips holding more than ten rounds.
Seriously act to move us to renewable energy sources.
Are we pissed off enough yet to get these things done? If all we're willing to do is bitch to each other about how rotten the system is, we may as well shut up and sit down. None of it will happen.

(1,372 posts)You said that congress reacts, they don't act
In order to act, one has to plan (plan to act)
Then, I thought I'd add to your question by asking that with all the
crap that goes on in congress that is screwed up - why doesn't the
ethics committee do something about all the unethical things that
are going on, also?
Basically, if we can't get the congress to act maybe we can, at least, get
the ethics committee to get off their buts and do something to help
correct some things - as a start...
Sorry, sometimes we get on a roll and leave out a lot of detail
which makes things difficult to understand.
