..Such is the price of incompetence and inflexibility. Whose fault is this?

We wouldn’t be facing a fiscal cliff at all if Republicans were willing to compromise/govern. But here we are, with Republicans refusing to tax the rich and threatening to raise taxes on all Americans unless they get cuts to “entitlements” in order to play pretend fiscal conservative. They never want to address real spending issues like defense spending. A serious fiscal conservative would take aim at where the bloat and waste linger, not only at their ideological foes.

And of course our media are here to help them sell this utterly false image by ending with a quote from a Republican blaming Democrats for the fiscal cliff.

We wouldn't have a "fiscal cliff" either if bush-cheney hadn't spent all of Clinton's Surplus and left a Trillion $$$ in debt from spending money without being held accountable for two wars and a Medicare Drug Program.

Unfortunately most folks still don't get math.

And our national math literacy quotient does not appear to be getting any better anytime soon.

The UK is strangely mia in this data set.

We have indeed become exactly what we were told growing up, that other oppressive countries were; A nation of rulers and serfs and a media of propaganda.

Howcome anyway we always gotta play on the other side's field? Why is it all about paying off the debts--the ones Bush ran up with his wars for the profit of the defense industry & tax cuts for the rich--by stealing fromt he poor?

Howcome it's never about getting our asses out of the business of conquering the world, cutting the military, increasing taxes on the super-wealthy, levying fines on corporations (think BP) commensurate with the damage they wreak, stopping the giveaways to the oil companies, giving stimulus money to the people from whom it was stolen instead of to the thieves…

Aw, shit, my fingers can't keep up with my outrage.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A person familiar with the details says President Barack Obama is not making a new 'fiscal cliff' offer at his high-stakes meeting with congressional leaders at the White House.

Obama instead is spelling out again a plan he says can pass the House and Senate, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak publicly about the private meeting.

Obama wants a bill to halt looming tax increases on all families making $250,000 a year or less and would extend unemployment insurance to many people about to lose it. His proposal would also cover other issues as the Jan. 1 deadline nears.

If he does not get a counter proposal that can pass both chambers, Obama will press for a straight up-or-down vote on his idea, the source said.
