General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm both looking forward to, and NOT looking forward to, next November.
I'm not looking forward to the 50th anniversary of when Oswald shot John F. Kennedy.
Any and every conspiracy buff, nutcase, and con artist is going to be falling out of the woodwork, coming up with more and more farfetched stories about how the Illuminati/Nazis/Communists/CIA/FBI/LBJ/you name it was behind Kennedy's shooting, when all the credible evidence points to a guy so far-left he couldn't stand the Soviet Union, was a lazy violent jerk towards his wife and had grand schemes to make himself famous.
But, It's also going to be the 50th anniversary of a British TV show that had an alien, his grand-daughter, and a time machine that looks like a British police box.

(46,337 posts)Is how they didn't have to really work at creating it, all they needed to do was copy the crapola being spread by the conspiracy theorists.
People want to believe in conspiracies like this, because they don't like it that shit happens.
Some kid flips out and shoots and kills 26 people, 20 of them being little kids.
A few right-wingers immediately come up with crazy stories about how it was all "set up by Obama."
Yet an ultra-left wack job shooting Kennedy? "That could never happen! It has to be a conspiracy!"

(34,582 posts)the truth is, the republic died when JFK was killed.

(57,936 posts)A lot of people who have difficulty believing the official explanation are like me -- people who were young adults at the time who greatly admired JFK and who were paying a lot of attention during the hours, days, weeks, months and years after the assassination.
There were so many strange coincidences, so many deaths, so many events that were very strange when taken together. What really happened, I do not know. But I believe that the official story is either untrue or very incomplete.
And conspiracies do happen -- over and over in history.

(46,337 posts)So I don't remember it at all.
I do know yes, there were a lot of conicidences, odd things, and other information is coming out.
The FBI was involved in a major cover-up of Oswald, they had been following the guy around because he was so far-left.
They covered up the fact they had been following him.
Jack Ruby did die of cancer, he was a heavy smoker even in jail.
Bullets can do weird things.
My BIL saw in Vietnam one bullet kill 3 guys, (sniper) and it looked like the "magic bullet."
But shit happens.
Lincoln was killed by a rabid Confederate sympathizer.
Garfield was wounded by an insane guy who kept demanding a job from President Garfield.
Garfield died of infections caused by the quacks at that time, poking their dirty fingers around in the wounds.
Reagan was nearly killed by a certified nutcase with a shit gun.

(57,936 posts)The Kennedy assassination was just too weird.
There are lots of cases of conspiracy assassinations in history. An attempt was made, for example, on Hitler.
Sometimes conspiracies are true.

(46,337 posts)They managed to shoot Lincoln and wound Steward, but the guy tasked with killing Johnson got too drunk.
One possibly innocent woman (Booth's landlady) was railroaded to the gallows.
