At libraries, children find delight in reading to dogs!

Sean Sullivan chose a book, sat down on the library rug and explained to Tavish that he was going to read him a mystery about a hidden treasure.
Tavish, never one to turn down a good story, wagged his short red tail and put his head on Sean’s knee.

I've read about prison programs where they raise working dogs and it teaches the prisoners more lessons than it does the dogs

...compassion from connecting with animals. And I think that the internet with all its flaws, has help speed that process along. After porn, I think cats and dogs are the internet's biggest content uploads and downloads.

And I remember that story you're referring to about the prisoners that trained service animals and in the process transformed their own lives. If security isn't compromised, I think anything should be brought into that environment to help them cope, along with the guards as well. Anything that brings humanity into prisons would help. Meditation helps too.

A kid learning to read needs to develop confidence to tackle unfamiliar words in books. A lot of adults will interrupt a kid who mispronounces a word--but a dog won't!
