Desert Storm General Norman Schwarzkopf dies

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20121227/us-obit-schwarzkopf/?utm_hp_ref=green&ir=green

WASHINGTON — A U.S. official says retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who commanded the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991, has died. He was 78.

The official tells The Associated Press that Schwarzkopf died Thursday in Tampa, Fla. The official wasn't authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

A much-decorated combat soldier in Vietnam, Schwarzkopf was known popularly as "Stormin' Norman" for a notoriously explosive temper.

He lived in retirement in Tampa, where he had served in his last military assignment as commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command. That is the headquarters responsible for U.S. military and security concerns in nearly 20 countries from the eastern Mediterranean and Africa to Pakistan.

My old commander in Desert Shield/Storm

We used to jokingly refer to him as General Pimple. His name, translated from German is BlackHead. A damned fine field commander, and strategist.

is pretty fucked up.

You might want to read up on UNSC Resolution 678.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_Resolution_678

The Gulf War was 100% legal and in fact was REQUIRED under international law.

He did precisely what Generals always do. The war he led was LEGAL. It was supported by the United Nations Security Council. It had a broad coalition including the neighbors of Iraq.

Seriously, it accomplished what the coalition wanted to accomplish, the restoration of Kuwait.
