Caution! The picture included here will be upsetting. It was to me...

House Republicans say this is OK as long as the woman is gay, Native American or undocumented.

Although the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was reauthorized in 2000 and 2005 with virtually unanimous support in both the Senate and the House, it expired in 2011 and must be reauthorized before the end of the year in order for the programs it funds to continue. The Senate approved a bipartisan bill reauthorizing it in April, but House Republican leaders are continuing to block it precisely because of its provisions providing help to Native women, members of the LGBT community, and undocumented immigrants who are victims of domestic violence.

Why would the VAWA have to be reauthorized every 5 years but the tax cuts for the rich get an even ten?

Why wouldn't the VAWA be implemented into the indefinite future?

This lack of caring is endemic in our society and offers (at least partial) insight into many of our problems. Including shootings...

I was an investigator for Child Protective Services.
I quit when I started my days with tears in my eyes before I woke up every morning.
We need the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) reauthorized. And. We. Need. It. Now.

Thanks for this thread, CaliforniaPeggy.

The VAWA needs reauthorization now. The GOP's contempt for All Women, especially Native American, Immigrants and the LGBT Community is clear. They have no humanity!

I was in an abusive marriage. It was more verbal than physical. Not like that poor woman in the picture.

Two events made me walk out the door. First, when a wooden stool was kicked with such force, that it sailed across the room and stuck me in the head. The second was when I found a loaded gun under our mattress. That was the end for me.

To just go ahead and pass the Senate version before the end of the month. Nothing came from it.

How can they hate so blindly that they'd in effect endorse any person being being abused? I can't understand it.
