Being able to visualize the statistics really humanizes the toll this gun obsession is taking on us.

I read that there are about 280 million guns in the USA today.

Prohibition taught us something - you can't ban something Americans love so much.

Whether from guns, cars, etc.

No - I am not an NRA fan, not a RW 'talking point', but I am someone who gets a little frustrated when things are blamed when something happens and not the people involved.

We don't blame wars on the weapons, we didn't blame ww2 on the tanks and planes hitler had, why do we blame murders on what people use?

Let's look at the people doing the things they do, try to understand more why than how, and focus on removing the causes.

There are no federal restrictions on the ownership of AR-15 rifles in the United States. During the period 1994–2004 variants with certain features such as collapsible stocks, flash suppressors, and bayonet lugs were prohibited for sales to civilians by the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, with the included Assault Weapons Ban. Included in this was a restriction on the pistol grip that protrudes beneath the stock, which was considered an accessory feature under the ban and was subject to restrictions. Some rifles were manufactured with a grip not described under the Ban installed in its place. Those AR-15s that were manufactured with those features, as well as the accompanying full capacity magazines, were stamped "Restricted Military/Government/Law Enforcement/Export Only". The restrictions only applied to guns manufactured after the ban took effect. It was legal to own, sell, or buy any gun built before 1994. Hundreds of thousands of pre-ban ARs were sold during the ban as well as new guns redesigned to be legal.

Inconclusive at best.

When assault weapon doesn't mean assault. It is by far the cutest of them all. My next favorite is "no legislation will ever pass" and then "no legislation will ever change anything."

I could be wrong, but I belileve that is the entire issue. Let us not cloud it with stupidity like:
We kill more people with....wait for it....CARS!!!!why aren't we banning cars????

This is a huge deeply held personal belief to almost everyone. They either strongly support the 2nd Amendment, leave it alone buddy! no questions asked, or they want it repealed.

any distraction cheapens the lives of those senselessly murdered by, yes, firearms. Not cars, exploding gas cans, falling bridges...firearms.

It needs to be discussed and acted on.
