(4,017 posts)I read that there are about 280 million guns in the USA today.
Prohibition taught us something - you can't ban something Americans love so much.

No - I am not an NRA fan, not a RW 'talking point', but I am someone who gets a little frustrated when things are blamed when something happens and not the people involved.
We don't blame wars on the weapons, we didn't blame ww2 on the tanks and planes hitler had, why do we blame murders on what people use?
Let's look at the people doing the things they do, try to understand more why than how, and focus on removing the causes.

(18,115 posts)When assault weapon doesn't mean assault. It is by far the cutest of them all. My next favorite is "no legislation will ever pass" and then "no legislation will ever change anything."

(9,186 posts)I could be wrong, but I belileve that is the entire issue. Let us not cloud it with stupidity like:
We kill more people with....wait for it....CARS!!!!why aren't we banning cars????
This is a huge deeply held personal belief to almost everyone. They either strongly support the 2nd Amendment, leave it alone buddy! no questions asked, or they want it repealed.
any distraction cheapens the lives of those senselessly murdered by, yes, firearms. Not cars, exploding gas cans, falling bridges...firearms.
It needs to be discussed and acted on.
