with 98,817 total schools. Let's assume half the rest also have no armed security. That makes 82,789 schools. Median salary of armed security guard is 29,596 * 5/6 = 24,633.33 (10 month employment). That comes out to 2,041,852,703.33 a year. That is $2 billion that can't be spent on S Chip, can't be spend on SNAP, can't be spend on Obama care, can't be spend on school lunches, can't be spend on teachers, etc. That doesn't even address the one time cost of making every single school a single entrance (or else you need more guards) building. You have to fence the building in, have no ability to open windows, and so on. Let's say that such retro fitting costs $100,000 a building. You have now spend 9,881,700,000. All to save maybe, 100 lives a year. This would do nothing to save kids killed on street corners, in their homes, in drive byes, in movie theaters, or anywhere else. Or we could ban assault riffles, use this money to buy the ones currently in circulation, ban large magazines and save many, many more lives.

In the US military our young men and women put their lives on the line each and every day of each and every year. Many of them receive less than $24K a year and they are still lining up to join.

So you don't value our children. You made your point.
We guard our gold and silver with guns. We guard our congress people with guns, our statehouses, and even out national landmarks. But we should not guard our children to the same level because you believe they have lesser value. I don't see any other reason why you feel we should not protect them at least as well as our banks.

How about we quit chasing our tails trying to restrict pot and enforce stupid pot laws and spend that money protecting our children.

11. Well you know what Mr./Mrs. Public? Most school buildings are simply not

built for terrorist attacks albeit by a select group or by an angry mob or by a person with mental illness. So guess what? You know that infrastructure that needs improvement? Schools need it too. And to do that we need taxes. So that means the rich gotta pay, no wars for at least a decade and maybe-you'll cover about half of them.

No security guard can be everywhere at once. Never happen.

5. I think it sends a message to kids

Parents and teachers that the gunners took over all the schools. And we are all suspects, like we are at the airport. No one is presumed innocent. No right to privacy. Only the right to bear arms. Add a few more flying projectiles to a malay. Try to get a clean shot off in all of that chaos? Add six. Wait until some jackass, in an assembly, gestures that he is going for a concealed weapon, and 14 teachers reach for their guns and squeeze off 10 rounds, into the crowd. Nobody will want to go to school.

7. Me personally, would like to see a bit of both. Gun control and security.

As security goes, I do not want to see armed security guards at all. Period.

I'd like to see structural security, safer windows, doors and entry points. With today's technology you can have secure windows that can be opened and closed just like a regular window, the doors look exactly the same as they do today. But that is just a wish... No clue on the cost or how it would be paid for.

since Columbine, it would have cost $4B/life assuming mass shootings (not single shootings), and it would be a good chance that not all those guards would have been effective.

was determined to shoot up a school. They'd wear body armor like Lanza and either avoid or take out the guard first.
