Report: Thousands of public employee retirees draw pension, salary simultaneously
From substitute teachers to cabinet secretaries, thousands of public employees in Wisconsin who retired in recent years returned to work, allowing them to earn both a paycheck and a state pension, according to a Legislative Audit Bureau report released Friday.

Gov. Scott Walker said he favors curbs on double dipping and is confident such legislation will pass in the next session.
The State Journal found last year that some rehired employees occupy high-level positions in government and spend years drawing both a pension and paycheck.
Among them were two of Walker's top appointees: Corrections Secretary Gary Hamblin, now retired, and Children and Families Secretary Eloise Anderson, who both earned six-figure salaries along with their public pensions. Stephen Fitzgerald, a retired sheriff, also is back on the payroll as superintendent of the State Patrol.
