I'm just curious how widespread this is. I talked to a relative this morning in California and her granddaughters' school district is being closed because of threats of violence tomorrow (Friday, the 21st).
I just checked my email (I'm in Western Washington State) and I have received a message from our school district that there are threats of violence for tomorrow as well. Our district, as yet, isn't closing, but parents are being made aware of the potential threats.
Is this happening throughout the country? Just curious and alarmed. (I know many schools are already on winter break)
It's so hard to decide whether to send my child to school despite the fear (I DON'T want to live in fear) and yet, I know I'll be nervous all day if I do send my child to school tomorrow.
This just sucks and makes me sad...

My wife says that she heard via the grapevine that a lot of parents called the school asking about security issues the day of the shooting, which pushed the school to send out a robo call.
Btw, Southwest Missouri here....

(13,081 posts)And just as often it's spontaneous. Kids like to gossip, spread rumors. In my district, the rumors have grown to include at least fifty schools, last time I checked. Crazed killers, gangs, white supremacists -- you name it, I've heard the rumors today. It doesn't help matters that tomorrow is both the day before Christmas and the supposed end of the Mayan calendar.
These rumors are spread at virtually every secondary school, every single year.
