from harm.

Arming teachers places them in the position of having to choose between grabbing students or grabbing a gun.

Knowing kids as I do, it takes all of a teacher's wit and skill to prevent kids from running wild in a crisis. There is always the kid who has no judgment and, even frightened to death, wants to look and see what is happening. It's hard to keep that kid safe.

Adding the time it takes to decide whether to grab the gun or follow the teacher's natural instinct to physically shield the children would make it much harder for the teacher to stay calm and focused.

The idea of guns in classrooms makes me sick. Where could the gun be stored?

It would have to be out of the reach of the students but readily accessible to the teacher. Locking the gun up is not a realistic possibility. Trying to hide it would be folly.

This idea of guns in the classroom is insane.

I can't believe that anyone who has ever tried to teach in a junior high classroom would support this idea. I did student teaching in junior high long, long ago before the schools were so chaotic and violent, and I can't imagine how this would work.

Besides, the teachers I know would not be able to bring themselves to kill someone, even an intruder. That is just not the way the majority of teachers are. They nurture. They don't kill.

A teacher with some minimum of firearms training and a handgun vs. an amped up psychopath with body armor and an AR-15, AK-47 or the like is totally going to stop a shooting.

Nah, didn't think so.

I was a teacher. I didn't get a Masters to carry a gun while doing my work. If that now becomes a requirement for a principal or another educator in a school - we are truly insane.
