this weekend just about everything is buy one get one free. That one mens store JD Banks or what ever has buy 1 get 2 free stuff. And Macy's is open the whole freaking weekend. Shoot even JCP is actually having a sale.

I wished they have a buy 1 get 1 free at the apple store. Either way I'm done shopping started Wednesday finished Wednesday, now its cooking time. Gotta start the tamale meat friday and when I wake up on sat I will commence making Christmas tamales.

But just in case the world might end I think I will call my mom and wish her a happy end of the world and that I did get her order of 2 dozen ck tamales and 3 dozen pork and I'll see her on New Years.

When did the Mayans exert such an influence on American history and society? I mean, do we ever talk about Mayan literature? Or discuss the contributions of the Mayan movie industry? How about Mayan pop recoding artists or Mayan intellectuals? And what about Mayan cuisine? When’s the last time you went out for Mayan food?

Sure, the Mayas had a rich civilization and culture, but those slipped into decline around 1200 and we haven’t paid much attention to them since. But, just let them bring out this calendar that suggests the world will end tomorrow and we all go apeshit!

I think tomorrow will be on par with Y2K.

We Americans are a fickle people…

There are still Mayans using the calendar and they don't like the Western hystery hoopla any more than you do and tell so out loud for anyone willing to listen. They say that the end of a calendar cycle and beginning of new cycle means deep changes, but not the end of the world. And from the look of it, they seem right.

As for "decline", western people theorize much why Mayans abandoned the pyramid building culture and went back to more simple way of life. But I haven't seen so far anyone asking Mayans themselves why they did so. The oppression and massacres continue, as does Mayan resistance. The Zapatista uprising by Mayan people has been great source of inspiration and learning for also western people.

PS: here's a Mayan Nobel Peace Prize winner. Much more justified choice than Obama the "let's not prosecute any war criminals" drone man.

Thank you, Octafish. I've never seen that particular Fire Sign Theater before.

"It's a Cataclysmic Sale", reminds me of local commercials from the 1960's. Too funny! I can remember that echoing voice-over from the announcer. Thanks for the flashback.

I just hope the indigenous population is fleecing them thoroughly. It's high time they caught a break.

I about flipped my lid when I saw billboards promoting 2012 when I was on a research trip in the Yucatan about 2 years ago. My husband pointed out that the native communities likely took the tourists to the cleaners.
