Went to my back cracker this morning. Wasnt fully awake. Was greeted with the usual, and then asked, :You bought your assult rifle yet?" Joking by the way.
I replied, "Nope, dont need one, too many guns exist out there now, another is not needed".
Now, I knew he hunted. But his views on gun ownership was not known.
Until today.
My reply began a litany of pro-gun type questions. The type where the listener KNOWS what the questioner is after, and KNOWS what the wrong answer in the questioner's mind will bring next.
D-A-M-N! I was suddenly on trial. Jumping from one statement to another, comparing the statement I answered with to other things I said later(whcih had no bearing or made no sense), total rambling on his part in atempt to prove what I was saying was wrong!
I didnt want to do this. I dont care his views. He's a nice guy. I like him. I kept back peddling trying to find a way out without getting pissed off. Finally I said, "Can't we just agree to disagree on some things?"
He said Sure why not.
I dont know a thing about guns in general. I thought guns had to be registered. Apparently his are not. But my grandfathers shotgun isnt either. So we are on the same page with that.
That was my morning. whew!

(75,480 posts)I do it all the time when people want to question my religious beliefs. I have none, but I don't feel like I have to apologize about it.

(34,138 posts)While he was working in my mouth and I could not respond. I should have known it was going to be a problem when Faux Noise was on in the waiting room. It was my first visit to him so he had no clue about any of my beliefs.
I never went back to that dentist.
My previous dentist who I had used for over 30 years never discussed religion, politics, anything touchy. I never had a clue about any of his opinions on any of those things and I was happy going to him for all that time, not knowing.
Professionals should leave that stuff outside the treatment rooms!

(2,176 posts)I changed docs and when I went to him the first time I laid it on the line. I told him I didn't care if he was religious and I didn't want to talk about my beliefs with my doc. He agreed and I also told him I would be expecting to see him for my appointments, not a PA. It has always irritated me that I start with a doc, keep paying the same amount, and end up with their PA. Nothing against you PA's out there, but if I'm going to sign up with a physician I want to see that person.

(37,163 posts)...because I'm fine with having this argument -- this persistently -- over a few brews in a neighborhood pub.
Having it in an office during a treatment visit, on the other hand, makes me start questioning the professionalism of the guy who's forgetting where he is and what he's supposed to be doing. Just saying...
