Mom left school gunman Adam Lanza alone for days before school massacre: report

Nancy Lanza had just arrived home early Thursday evening, following a two-night getaway to Bretton Woods, NH, according to Headline News.

She checked into the Omni Mount Washington Resort at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and checked out at 12:27 p.m. on Thursday, HLN said.

It’s 290 miles — nearly a five-hour drive — between Bretton Woods, NH, and Newtown, Conn.

Lanza had visited Bretton Woods before and had always driven herself there, according to HLN.

She had chatted with friends during her two nights in New Hampshire and appeared to be in good spirits, the cable news network reported.

1. Has there been any report as to weather Nancy Lanza kept all the guns and ammo locked up?

If someone is going to have so much ammo, they should at the very least be required to have it secured. There are reports that she considered her son to be troubled, and it would have made sense to secure the stuff away from him. Perhaps, he managed to get at it anyway.

Far too many reports - generally speculative without any foundation.

And its whether : not weather.

3. Did he buy the .22 that he used to shoot his mother because the guns were locked?

NBC Connecticut also reported that Adam Lanza tried to buy a rifle at a Dick's Sporting Goods in Danbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday but was rebuffed because the state has a waiting period for gun sales.

Given the arsenal at home, why did he try to buy a rifle at Dick's?

Apparently he mustered enough willpower to drive to Danbuy and interact with a clerk -- although his demeanor may have made the clerk unwilling to sell him a rifle.

Note that his attempt to buy a rifle at Dick's was on Tuesday, the day his mother checked into the hotel in Bretton Woods, NH.

They have thrown so much shit at the wall on this, trying to make something stick. Nevermind the glee they seem to get over how horrible America is.

11. If he takes off to buy a gun the first day mom is gone, then he's been planning this for awhile

I have the same question as you - why did a mentally ill kid who supposedly shrank away from all human contact go to Dick's to try to get a gun, when supposedly all his mom's guns were out and available for use?

If this woman was really a doomsday prepper type as her relatives claimed, it is pretty unlikely she'd take off for a break and just leave her guns and ammo out on the counter where they could be stolen by the supposed masses who are coming to harm her in an economic collapse - she'd have them locked up or hidden.

I don't get that the clerk was smart enough not to sell this young man a gun; it sounds like they were going to sell it to him, just was applying the waiting period to him as in any sale.

It is possible that his mom had the guns and ammo locked up so the son couldn't get to them, and that's why he tried to buy one. I'm wondering if this kid played some ruse on her when she got back, maybe pretended he wanted to go target shooting, offered to clean the guns, whatever. She might have left them out, figuring so long as the ammo was locked up, what could be the harm in letting him see his shiny objects.

There is no waiting period on ammo, so I'd like to know if he bought some at Dicks (might be why Dick's is pretending to care and suspending sales to get some good will before the bad news comes). If he tricked mom, and got her to leave out a couple of guns unaware that he'd bought the ammo for them, that would explain a few things. And obviously he was premeditating a killing and being devious despite his mental illness, because he tried to buy that gun the minute she left home to take a break from him.

OTOH, none of this has to make sense I guess, because that is the nature of mental illness.

5. So what? He was 20. The media has been completely unreliable on this story anyway.

There's nothing unusual about a mother leaving her twenty year old son "alone" for two days. So far, we have zero credible information that there was any warning whatsoever that Adam Lanza was violent. Zero. Nothing. No evidence.

The news media has failed at every single aspect of this story, from the very beginning. Absolutely disgraceful fail on their part. They've run with unsubstantiated rumors that turned out to be wrong from the minute this happened, and they haven't paused for breath since.

The media coverage of this has been awful.

And again, he was 20. Pretty sure alot of 20 year olds are left "alone" for days at a time everyday.

8. He was a 20 year old with a developmental disability *and* mental illness.

By all reports, he was entirely dependent on his mom.

In retrospect, he obviously shouldn't have been left alone.

12. Did you read my post? We have zero evidence that he was diagnosed with any issue. Nothing. Nada.

What mental illness has he been shown to have, other than random reports by the media that have gotten every other fact wrong about this case? What developmental disability? Nothing. We can speculate, but that's it. That's all the media is doing - pure speculation.

The only thing that is not speculation are the funerals.

He shouldn't have been left alone, but it is entirely possible that no one could have known this until after the fact.

Since when do investigators rely on the MEDIA to investigate any case??? It's the other way around.

The NYP, Daily Mail, Telegraph, etc. are all RAGS. They make shit up. Good grief, DU is better than this shit.

13. Not to mention, the so-called mainstream media have been little better than the tabloids on this.

It's very disappointing to see how many people believe every single headline about this case, despite the fact that the media has gotten everything wrong from the very beginning. Yet people still repeat the rumors as fact.
