(184 posts)Is 'right wing.' Ill have to keep that in mind when determining who is and isn't Democratic enough.

(1,986 posts)The RW interpretation goes far beyond citizens right to keep and bear arms...its any and all arms.

(1,986 posts)I put that in all my polls for people who think more than I do or see thinks differently. And then - a conversation starts.

(20,441 posts)In Switzerland, their system is not very different than the system the United States used during its Revolution. It used community militias, whose members were drafted from their constituent communities. People who were on active duty were trained to fight and how to safely operate and maintain their firearms.
In Switzerland today, those who are on active duty serve in the communities they live, and they're required to keep their rifles under lock and key and also to store their ammunition separately. They would submit to random checks to ensure compliance and training on an annual basis to keep skills fresh. In the event of an emergency, units can be quickly called up because they're already stationed in the area they're meant to protect.
Get rid of the idea of a professional/all-volunteer military force. The Founders envisioned national defense much more aligned to the way Switzerland's national defense and foreign policy stance is. One other difference is that Switzerland has a national draft to staff the community militias.

(2,165 posts)What is the "right-wing" interpretation of the second Amendment and what does it have to do with Professional Armed Forces? Are these things, whatever they are, mutually exclusive?

(1,986 posts)That they believe you have right to own any fire arm with any capacity because the Red Coats/ Nazis/ Communists/terrorists might come attack us and make us say happy hollidays and not eat bacon and of course take all of our freedoms away. And maybe raise taxes too...
