An idea proposed by a friend of mine regarding school violence

He just posted this on my Facebook page:

A MODEST PROPOSAL

Arming elementary school teachers is a terrible idea. I remember once making my second grade teacher so angry that she hit me with a piece of chalk. If she had been packing, I wouldn't be here today.

A much better idea is to arm the students themselves. I know it sounds radical but think it through. The students, after all, were the targets at Sandy Hook. How much better it would have been if the students could have defended themselves!

Besides, when is the last time you heard of a first or second grader committing a mass murder? Sure, there is the occasional accidental shooting at home, but these kids are already students, so adding a section on gun safety would be easy enough. Plus background cheks on people under 10 years old should be a snap.

Maybe I should write the NRA. All indications are that they would support this modest proposal.

Seriously, as educators we should expect that some of the students have parents with weapons available.

Providing some serious gun awareness training could be helpful.

The rest is, of course, a joke.

Should be armed. They have NEVER committed mass murder. LOL! If every child in that classroom had been armed, they still would have all been killed, including shooting their friends or themselves by accident.
