Repub OK Legislator Introduces Legislation to Ban Food Made From Human Fetuses

When I first read this, I thought it had to be a hoax despite it being published in the Oklahoma State college paper.

So I checked it out at the Oklahoma State Legislature website. Here's the bill itself, SB1418, introduced on 1/18/2012.

I've no clue why Senator Shortey thinks this legislation is necessary. Any ideas?

Guess you won't be able to go to a restaurant in OK and order Fetus au Vin or Fetus Stroganoff or any of those other luscious fetus-based culinary gems for which Oklahoma is so famous. And they probably won't be even be selling Fetus Helper in grocery stores.

Seriously, even The Onion couldn't come up with this shit.

the idea is to get people to object to it on the grounds that would be cannibalism because a fetus is human.

then they go aha! a fetus is human! therefore adult women are machines to be operated by our dictates!

Biotech company using cell lines from aborted babies in food enhancement testing

LARGO, Florida, March 29, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pepsico, Kraft Foods, and Nestlé are among the corporations partnered with a biotech company found using aborted fetal cell lines to test food flavor enhancers, according to a pro-life watchdog group.

The internationally recognized biotech company, Senomyx, boasts innovation and success in “flavour programs” designed to reduce MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products.  Senomyx notes their collaborators provide them research and development funding plus royalties on sales of products using their flavor ingredients.

Pro-life watchdog group, Children of God for Life (CGL), has called upon the public to target the major corporations in a boycott, unless the company ceases to use aborted fetal cell lines in their product testing.

“Using isolated human taste receptors,” the Senomyx website claims, “we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

Christian anti-abortion group says aborted fetuses are used in food taste-enhancement tests

Last April, the anti-abortion site, LifeSite News, reported that aborted fetuses are finding their way into the commercial food industry's research.

They were taking issue with Senomyx' "isolated taste receptors" program, which a group called "Children of God for Life" claims come from "human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors." Last spring, Children of God for Life issued an action alert calling for the boycott of Pepsico, Kraft Foods, Campbell Soup, Solae and Nestlé, which the anti-abortion group alleges hire Senomyx for flavor enhancement.

Campbell Soup cut ties with Senomyx, according to the Children of God for Life. PepsiCo responded,

PepsiCo has a strong set of defined values we strive to live up to. Unfortunately, there is some misinformation being circulated related to research techniques that have been used for decades by universities, hospitals, government agencies, and private companies around the world. These claims are meant to suggest that human fetal tissue is somehow used in our research.

That is both inaccurate and something we would never do or even consider.
