Should buying ammo be easier than buying sudafed?

I have to show id. My purchase is recorded in a single national database. I am limited to a certain amount of purchases per month. For sudafed.

Ammo - i can purchase as much, & as frequently as i want. No record of purchases if paid in cash. No limits except my $.

Ammunition purchases:

2. You do know we've tried tracking ammo sales before, right? 1968 to 1987

In 1986, the head of the ATF had this to say:

"The Bureau and the Treasury Department have recognized that recordkeeping requirements for ammunition have no substantial law enforcement value."

I have to show ID and sign a form to buy one box of Sudafed. I can only buy a box every so often, like one a month I think, even though a box doesn't last a month during certain times of the year.

5. You do have to be minimum age and they can request ID at stores for ammo.

If you don't believe me, go to walmart and buy some ammo. They'll ask you if it's for a pistol or rifle and to see ID. 21 for pistol ammo and 16 (or 18, i can't remember) for rifle ammo.

National ammo database would not be so bad, I think.

What sort of ammuntion amount limit-per-timeframe would be suitable?

And ABSOLUTELY NO other form of ID is accepted, including a current US passport.

I know. I misplaced my DL once and tried to present my alternate form of government photo ID and they refused.
