(9,463 posts)teabaggers I've seen spouting off their crap have not to a single one seemed to have been moved from their assholishness by this horrific tragedy.
Edited: I changed "Rs" to "teabaggers" because I have actually seen some republicans saying something needs to be done. It's the extreme assholes like Chaffetz & Co. who are still spewing their stinking shit.

(20,600 posts)with this.
The best thing the NRA can do is disband and apologize for their enabling of this kind of gun crazed culture.
ChisolmTrailDem
(9,463 posts)They should just not say anything. There is nothing they can say that won't be disgusting.
Disband and give their money to mental health care.
If they came out on day one you'd be hammering them on their lack of empathy.

(25,598 posts)go can go and fuck yourselves, you advocates of cop-killer teflon-coated bullets. Fuckers that you are.

(14,337 posts)NRA has set out to achieve that. They won't be happy until every adult citizen is armed. 2nd Amendment "rights" or DUTY?
PCIntern
(25,598 posts)cop-killing bullets! Teflon coated bullets have one purpose: to penetrate vests designed to stop bullets and other missiles.
Every law enforcement officer and executive in the USA should be calling for their demise as an organization.
Really, truly, you just made my whole day.
If you can articulate to me what a Teflon coated bullet is and explain how it penetrates a vest, with sources, I will take a band-saw to every gun I own, post pics, and leave this site forever.
tclambert
(11,087 posts)The Teflon coating was added to reduce wear on gun barrels. It apparently aids in penetration of glass and metal, but actually decreases the bullet's ability to penetrate body armor.
Coating a regular bullet with Teflon . . . well, that's just stupid. But steel-core rounds, like those sold by KTW, need the coating so they don't wreck the gun barrel. Originally, KTW developed these bullets to help law enforcement, to give them ammunition that could more easily penetrate windshields and car doors.

(515 posts)It seems like lead is the major killer with bullets, not teflon.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)That they have materially contributed to the culture and mind-set that allows these kinds of things. That they will from now on use all of their money for a gun buy-back.
They will offer free training in gun safety, underwrite the cost of good gun safes and gun locks.
There must be more, but that's just what comes to mind at the moment.
By saying that they need to change, they're in effect saying they've been wrong all along. They need to own up to that, at the very least.

(515 posts)...what if their meaningful contribution is a proposed law that would make it legal for teachers to have guns?

(13,409 posts)I hope they do, but in my comment below, I state my apprehensions. But I do think it's very important for the NRA to finally admit that they've been very wrong all these years, and numerous tragedies were the result.

(13,409 posts)The countless other tragedies weren't enough? Fuck, at least it's something. As to whether or not they actually mean those words or if it's just words thrown out to appease the public, I guess we'll have to wait and see. If the NRA is actually willing to do something to curb violence rather than exacerbate it like they have in the past, then they should be commended.

(42,769 posts)They know their image is lower than whale shit and they are in a panic trying to
pull something positive out of a desperate situation. This should be interesting.

(13,776 posts)... not this time.
They probably are actually willing to do something this time. I think this is sort of like the way abortion finally became an undirty word for the Democrats in the last election because the antiabortion nuts were so over-the-top offensive. At last, politicians on both sides are proud, not scared, to talk about preventing gun violence. This discussion should be interesting in a very similar way to the abortion-rights issue, only with 20 dead innocent children and 6 dead heroic adults it will be even more profound. There is really no way to stand behind the universal right to own assault rifles the way that the religious right stood behind their beliefs about abortion.
