1) You'll be dead
2) I'll be alive
3) I'll be taking your gun away

(75,480 posts)The irony of this woman getting guns for survivalist reasons having one of them used against her to kill her should be a lesson for those who think they need guns for protection. I guess they weren't much of a defense for her, were they?

(12,031 posts)and that's exactly how they're going to take it away from you. By prying it from your cold dead hand.

(10,164 posts)Golly, that's impressive! Most advocates of gun confiscation don't have the guts to put their ass on the line for their beliefs. They expect someone else to do the dirty work.

(10,164 posts)Very few confiscation advocates have that kind of integrity. Most seem to be just like the RW chickenhawk war proponents who would never get anywhere near a battlefield.

(8,556 posts)Granted, 'from my cold, dead hands' is a cheesy slogan and is intended to be a boastful challenge. It brings this kind of rhetoric on itself.
But still, the impression I get here is that you want to to tell the world how happy you would be to do the shooting personally. At that point, it's not just about guns anymore.

(18,792 posts)I have seen drones put forth as an option. It takes care of the family of the gun owners too.
Ironic how many who want to stop the murder of children and are against the death penalty have put forth ideas of mass murder to solve gun violence. Frighteningly, I think more than a few are not being sarcastic...

(18,792 posts)that since they are already being used you are ok with them used against US citizens for the crime of gun ownership?

(45,851 posts)I think the use of the armed drones is totally counterproductive, unbelievably stupid and disgusting by someone who holds the Nobel Peace Prize.

(12,031 posts)the gun you pry from the dead man's hand is most likely the gun he killed himself with.

(8,379 posts)they absolutely regretted it as soon as they leapt. Those who shoot themselves never have the ability to take it back. How many fewer deaths by suicide would we have if we didn't have guns?

(12,031 posts)Lately they all seem to be men who shot themselves. Some of them were young men who were upset over a failed relationship. Imagine if they'd had a few days to think about it -- I bet they'd realize there were other women who might love them.

(3,547 posts)suicides are a hard thing to "pin down" to a single cause.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate
as you can see, there is a questionable correlation between gun ownership rates and suicides (Japan has a significantly higher suicide rate than the U.S.). Also I think focusing on the instrument used rather than the underlying cause for suicide does the victims and their families great injustice
Lastly, never forget the laws of unintended consequences (this is speaking from personal experience). That person who would have shot themselves in the head now goes into their garage and turns on their car with the door closed- He dies, and so does everyone in the house when the carbon monoxide seeps through.
