If we cant get gun control which I see as almost impossible, then I believe the only solution is security cameras on every street corner in America similar to London and especially concentrated around schools and malls entrances.
The doors of schools and malls would be outfitted with jets of toxic gas in case a heavily armed intruder is spotted by the security cameras. One person could monitor 200 security cameras for suspicious activity. It could be similar to how it is done in London and other major English cities. Freedom to own weapon arsenals must come with a price for us all.

(617 posts)You need to be plainer with what you are implying here sir. Are you being sarcastic or do you actually expect Americans to live in a privately owned police state?

(11,464 posts)My idea and John Lennon, RFK, JFK, Dr.King and Allard Lowenstein all would be alive and well.
And Abraham Lincoln would not have been killed either.
really, to put it in nice, easy words that need nothing to imply- GUNS SUCK.
Private citizens with guns SUCK the liberty and basic right of freedom out of everyone else around them.
Is that plain as day? GUNS SUCK
Get them out of the street, then anyone found with a gun in the street deal with anyway needed, nothing off the table.
Only federal police, state police, city police can have a gun in the street.
All it takes is to reclassify the gun for what it is- a weapon of mass destruction
If the CT shooting and Oklahoma City bombing were considered the same, then the problem would be solved by treating it as the same. 19 kids or more died in each.
I for one see NO difference
As Michael Moore tweeted-and I have heard the NRA use this line in every prior shooting, so it must be true here
If only the gunslinger's first victim had guns, it all could have been prevented.
ALL guns need to off the street permanently except for law enforcement of the federal/state/local.
AND NO citizen watch group should have a gun. Period.

(617 posts)Giving weapons and security cameras to private citizens creates factionalism and factionalism creates chaos. We're on the same page.
And yeah, GUNS SUCK.

(11,464 posts)Person has gun or buys gun
The new gun is delivered by government to private house.
Once there, it stays in house
No gun in street. Period. Legal or illegal except for federal/state/city law enforcement and then ONLY while on duty, their gun stays at the office when they check out for the night.
More security and then any gun found in the street is dealt with harshly.
It would stop the mass killings problem
My 1st amendment right stops when a gun is around. That trumps the 2nd.
All it takes is reframing the issue.
and nobody would take away the gun from a home.
Just from the street, nationwide city or rural or suburb or farm.
oh, and a sign would be needed on door warning people that a gun is inside, so anyone else can choose or not choose to enter. That would also be protection for the home owner.
Rules of course would be needed for apartment homes and multiple home owner complex.
Nothing that a little jiggle and tweak can't fix instantly.

(1,712 posts)We fight against the intrusive security state, illegal wiretaps, and the fearmongering of the neocons for 11 years, and now one incident is all it takes for some dems to start singing the Bush & Rumsie song? Screw that noise.

(6,335 posts)We have a culture of guns in this country where the mentally unstable or criminals can basically get anything they want to mass kill 100 people a minute. If that isnt terrorism I dont know what is.
The UK had to finally put security cameras everywhere because of very frequent IRA terrorist activity. It looks like we'll have to do the same. The RW NRA has our politicians and the country by the balls and I dont see anything changing anytime soon. And it will only get worse. A country's first responsibility is to protect its children. Time for the cameras.

(9,186 posts)IF the event occurs in view of the camera, you'll have video footage of a crime tht can be used in court IF a bad guy is apprehended.
Cameras everywhere is not an answer. How do I know? We have over 200 in our hospital. There are still assaults, thefts, vehicle accidents...
