Discovery Series American Guns Cancelled
There will not be a third season of Discoverys docu reality series American Guns. The show, about a family of gun makers, has been drawing attention following Fridays elementary school shooting in a Connecticut in which 26 people including 20 first-grade children were gunned down by a 20-year-old whose mom was a gun collector. There have been angry messages posted by viewers on the shows Facebook page. American Guns has now been cancelled. Discovery sources indicate the decision was quietly made awhile ago, however it didnt come to light until today. American Guns concluded earlier this year, a spokesperson said. Discovery Channel chose not to renew the series and has no plans to air repeats of the show. The fact that the network is not even keeping repeats of the show on the air indicate that the Connecticut tragedy may have played at least some part in the decision.
The second season of American Guns got off to a strong start in April with 1.15 HH, 0.87 in adults 25-54 and 0.79 in adults 18-49, up 50% from last years series premiere. But the ratings subsequently dropped off and, in the end, Season 2 finished down double-digits from Season 1. I hear Discovery brass also felt there was no story left to tell, contributing to the cancellation decision. American Guns joins two veteran Discovery series that have been recently cancelled: Dirty Jobs and American Chopper.

(29,676 posts)It showed how hard the blue collar American worker really works for their paycheck. It also showed viewers a glimpse into jobs they'd never even thought about. If anything, bring back Dirty Jobs-it was the best of the bunch.

(16,191 posts)American Guns was a spinoff second show with crappy ratings. The fact that it's cancelled is no shock, and it's a bit disturbing that Discovery is marketing this as somehow being in sympathy to the school shooting.
The fact that they're keeping Sons of Guns on the air, which was the ORIGINAL "gun reality show" and still has good ratings, really tells you all you need to know about Discovery's intentions.

It always makes me laugh a little when I think back to all the negative press that gathered around the whole "You might be a redneck, if....." humor.. Most of the "shows" on some cable channels are much worse.

(29,676 posts)not by a long shot. The family seems like the typical trash that makes shows of this nature but they do like each other and they like spending time with each other. The mother has also said that she wants to put most of the money from the show into accounts for her daughters for their futures.
They are crude but they're more believable as a family compared to the Duggars, the Bates, and the Gosselins. (Thank goodness they're off the air!)

We'll see how that works out..
Luckily there are laws in place to make sure they eventually see some of the money. but clever accounting whittles away lots of it along the way..

(29,676 posts)consultant to do the work for her, along with ensuring her taxes are paid.
She's not a bright woman but she admits it. It's the least offensive of the bunch. She said they started doing pageants because her daughter wanted to be a princess and that they only do a couple every year. She also seems to be teaching her children some sort of values. Since the show aired the youngest daughter (Honey Boo Boo) has received gifts from people all over the US. Her parents said that she didn't need to keep them since she has more than enough from them and from Santa and they decided to donate them all to a local charity. Same thing with some of the baby items sent to the oldest daughter, who is a teen mother. She thanked everyone for sending her items but said she had more than enough and chose instead to donate everything to a shelter. They are also big defenders of gay rights and gay marriage, since the father's brother is gay and in a LTR. They've taught their daughters that it's ok to be gay-just love each other and be good and that's all that matters in life.
I think I defend them sometimes because I know people like them. Loud and a bit trashy but good people with good hearts who'd give their shirts off their backs.

Wouldnt the whole production crew be liable for prosecution under aiding and abetting a criminal enterpise?

(7,776 posts)"Sons of Guns" is bad enough (go on any firearms related forums, and they unmercifully rip new assholes on both these shows).
The only one I have watched on occasions, is "Top Shot".
If I were 30 years younger, had that skill level, and had the time... it's something I would have liked to try out for.
