It remains unclear when the 436 surviving students at Sandy Hook will return to class, but when they do it will be in an unused school about 7 miles (11 km) to the south in Monroe, Newtown School Superintendent Janet Robinson said.
"The Town of Monroe has graciously offered their Chalk Hill School," Robinson said in a statement. "This facility, which is currently not being used, is in excellent condition and will accommodate all of the Sandy Hill School students and staff. It is located just across the border from Newtown and should be ready for occupancy in just a few days"

(50,130 posts)I have been wondering if any children in that first grade classroom survived. If so, my heart is broken for that child.

(2,522 posts)The removal to a new school is more stress and it may be better to try and work something out with the local churches to have the public educators go in and provide instruction for small classrooms. Something that keeps them close to home and near familiar surroundings. I'm afraid some of these kids are gonna be messed up for their lives--Columbine survivors still report unusual fears and nightmares. What have we as a society done to allow this clusterf@#$ NRA to co habitat? I'd like to meet Wayne La Pierre and present him with a mechanical heart--because that bastard is missing one. I hope all of the so called "recreational and protection of home" nuts choke on their oatmeal.

(25,415 posts)Chalk Hill was closed because of budget cuts but will find some use again. So sad that it had to be because of the shootings.

(47,521 posts)Since the shooting apparently concentrated in one area of the school, perhaps this site can be demolished, converted to a peaceful park.
Let these classes be build someplace else.

The ghouls - mostly the press - would LOVE to have photos where the carnage took place.

(51,666 posts)NIMBY's in that wealthy suburb probably won't want another school built anywhere near them. IF the land is even available. And there's no money these days for new schools anyway.
