Newt won all 25 of SC delegates (according to both Daily Kos and David Axelrod via Twitter). That means Gingrich has 25, Romney 18, Santorum 11, and Paul 6. Florida is winner take all so if he somehow pulls that off, he could have a huge delegate lead. Simply amazing.
In the age of Citizen United, Gingrich can get money easily. That billionaire in Vegas could send him another 10 mill which would be like me sending a 10 spot. Heck 100 mill. And no one since 1980 has won the GOP nod without winning SC.
On edit According to dailykos latest it is possible that Mitt won the 1st district which would make the totals 23 to 20. Also Mitt apparently has more superdelegates than Newt so he would have a lead though superdelegates are not pledged like the delegates won in elections. If you count super delegates then Mitt would be ahead 36 to 24.

(52,164 posts)while dailykos and axelrod are saying another. Apparently SC rewards wta in each district and at large. My guess is that they are holding off on projecting one or more likely two congressional districts. But if Kos and Axelrod are saying Newt won the delegates I tend to trust them.

(129,165 posts)But no time in history has the GOP had 3 different winners for the first 3 races, so IMHO, all the rules have been thrown out this go-around and anything goes!

(15,951 posts)but maybe--if he can keep the money pouring in and it is a closed primary. But there are some states (like VA) where Newt isn't even on ballot.

(9,314 posts)Think about all the retirees in Florida and picture the ad. Newt was looking ahead to Florida; Romney was not.
Just my two cents.

(52,164 posts)dailykos and axelrod. 605pm is where axelrod's tweet is and at 541pm is where they say via redistrict that he won all 25. Again, I tend to trust them and think they are simply projecting faster. BTW I just saw MSNBC say at least 19 delegates. If you like yours better so beit. but I named mine and people can judge.

(13,390 posts)I wonder if he could emerge as anti- Romney \ anti-Newt candidate.
If it looks bad for Romney in FL would he ask his delegates to vote for Santorum?

(476 posts)Because SC broke some RNC primary "laws" they've been sanctioned and their 50 delegates have been halved...

*edit* Whoops, I misread that site. I jumped the gun. There are 11 at large delegates and the rest are bonus and party assigned. The total, when all is said and done will be 25 instead of the usual 50 they have. I apologize.

(52,164 posts)and apparently it was 11 for winning the state plus 2 per district. which means that msnbc was not projecting 3 of the 7 districts while cnn was projecting all 7. who knows why.

(52,164 posts)He got another 5 mill from the wife of the casino mogul. And he is ahead in Florida. Maybe Barney Frank lived a really, really good life.
