Dumbest right wing letter to the editor in the local paper today:
In U.S., anyone can express views
No one elected Grover Norquist to run this country. But then again, no one elected Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Susan B. Anthony or George Soros, either. What's exactly right about our political landscape is that Americans have the freedom to express their opinions. Let's hope the time never comes when only members of Congress or the president are permitted to promote their views.

Apparently this person is trying to defend the Norquist no-taxes pledge in response to the argument that members of Congress should pledge only to the Constitution, not wealthy lobbyists like Norquist.
But MLK, Chavez, and Anthony were grass-roots organizers who didn't have any corporate dollars behind their activism at all. And Soros doesn't have anything like the Norquist pledge.
And this writer thinks he has a good right wing argument by throwing around the word "freedom" and making false left-right equivalencies.

(27,461 posts)1. none of these people gave legislators a pledge to sign
the GOP should be embarrassed about signing a pledge to this asshole.

(5,756 posts)2. The comparison might have been appropriate
if Norquist were trying to do something humanitarian like ensuring equal rights or voting rights. But the ass hat is not. He's trying to move us to a society with no safety net.
What he's doing is really more comparable to the people in the '50s and '60s fighting against integration of schools and the people who gave tests to African Americans designed to prevent them from getting a voter registration card.

From what I understand Susan B. Anthony couldn't grow a beard either. But then, she never tried.

No one can "seriously" compare them.
