General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI do not believe that the President abandoned Susan Rice as pointed out by
Dan Rather and Andrea Greenspan on Rachel's show. I believe that she did volunteer to withdraw for consideration. They are trying to say that the administration left her hanging and that democratic women in the senate and house are upset about it. If they can not name a source, then do not throw out these "high level" people they supposedly talked to. The bottom line is that she was railroaded by three miscreants from the GOP: McCain, Graham and Ayotte.

(116,464 posts)She was rumored to be under consideration. None of these people know jack shit about what the President is thinking in terms of making an appointment to his cabinet.
Ridiculous.

(44,173 posts)Maybe, just maybe, it was Rice who abandoned herself. No evidence from any source who has gone on record has even suggested that she was pushed out.
Obama was willing to fight for her, but she has to be willing to fight for herself too. Maybe she was not willing to do that.

(53,661 posts)She has no more control of her program that Ed does with some of those buffoons he's ordered to have on than any of them.

(62,325 posts)I'm hoping, as someone else said, that he realized how bad she is for such a powerful role for this country. Check out her record in Africa eg.
It would be to his credit if he let her go and replaced her with a someone who didn't excuse every Bush lie about Iraq, and who didn't support and protect African dictators. I never liked her from way back because she never seemed like a Democrat to me.

(62,325 posts)I've always thought that Rice was a Clinton choice which he agreed to in exchange for their support after the election.
Her record on Africa is atrocious eg. See Rwanda eg, and her role in that tragedy during the Clinton years, and then later her support for African Dictators even when people in the State Dept disagreed with her. I was very disappointed that he brought her into his administration.
Otoh, it's possible he knows all about her and likes her. I would prefer to think that is not the case.

(26,355 posts)I'm sure the President feels terrible about it, and wanted Rice, but this sounds like a situation where tactically, it was time to make a hard decision to pick one's battles.
And my bet is that Rice agreed that the Obama administration has bigger fish to fry.
I'm guessing that Obama may bring Rice in as a national security advisor - good way to thumb his nose at McCain, as that particular appointment doesn't require Senate approval.

(10,538 posts)All I care about is, does he do the job:
1. Election reform. Without that, we got nothing.
2. Media reform. Ditto.
3. Edu. So far, not good.
4. All kinds of other impt. sh*t, like internet control, the environment, basic civil rights as per the Constitution such as the First and Fourth Amendments -- Ditto (so far, not good.)
Granted, the Repubs are worse; but when are we going to start pushing the margins of discussion back toward reality?

(10,597 posts)MSNBC requirement? I used to really like Dan when he was on CBS, but don 't have any use for him anymore. I flip the channel while he is on, and then come back after he's gone. And I never watch Andrea Greenspan Mitchell. Ever. And I don't agree with either of their opinions on the Susan Rice-PO issue. I thought PO handled it perfectly in that first presser after the election. Dayammm, the man is busy, for Pete's sake. He didn't take the winger bait, that's what he didn't do. And in the end, I think the wingers screwed themselves on the whole thing... After the election, the wingers were emaciated, morally. But they had to stand up and cause a stink over something so their gullible audience/base would see them as doing something productive.
