my school district finally did something right

One of our schools has an eight class schedule instead of six. They use those two classes for electives. The parents feel it offers their kids a chance to explore and be creative and innovative. The school district was worried the kids weren't getting enough class time for core classes and not scoring high enough on tests. The school district wanted to switch the school to a six class schedule. Well the parents showed up and the school board voted to keep the eight class schedule instead of changing to a six class schedule. Finally some flexibility and an emphasis on kids learning creativity instead of memorization for standardized tests.

when electives should be 'ordinary!' Isn't this what education is about??? 'to explore and be creative and innovative'
