General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell...I'm about to get evicted.
Haven't been paid in six weeks. We had a huge job fall through at the last minute that would have got my dad's company back in black, at least for a bit. Losing that job will likely mean we'll have to shut down the business as well.
Now, unless I come up with 1225 bucks by Friday afternoon, I will have one month to leave.
Guess it's just a different sort of opportunity, I am not particularly fond of what the Keys has to offer anyway.
And no, I'm not asking for money. I will not accept any offers of such.
Just needed to vent.
Probably won't be online much starting real soon either, so it was nice getting to know all of you, and I will be back, posting music no one likes before you know it!
I'll check in when I can.
PEACE!

(11,605 posts)And explained your situation? Sometimes they can be reasonable, especially if it's a short-term thing. Maybe he would be willing to work something out with you.
Do you have any business assets that you could use as collateral to get a loan?

(2,979 posts)but the property manager has been on my side for the last year or so.
This has been a long time coming. Getting paid less and less often, and new profitable jobs disappearing...
The owner ain't gonna give a damn, he's got other tenants in other states to worry about.
*edit*
As a company, we've been struggling for the past 2 years after a former employer embezzled about 60k from us, we are STILL paying off the debts she ran up.

(192 posts)I hope things turn around for you.
Many people around here are hiring help for the holidays--you might be able to get just a couple weeks of work to tide you over until you get something better. And if you talk to the landlord--they might give you a bit of extra time--or take a partial payment ...

(2,979 posts)But there aren't a lot of jobs in the Keys right now.
Tourism is practically non-existant, and this is tourist season.
I ain't giving up just yet though.
Still got time to get paid and pay my rent. I'll still be broke as hell, lol...but I'll have a roof over my head. For another month anyway.

(9,463 posts)...and decide to leave the Keys, depending on your skills, maybe there's something somewhere else that you can do. I hear they need lots of people for all sorts of jobs in ... North Dakota, around the oil patch. Wow! From the Keys to N. Dakota in winter - that's a shocking contrast!
All my best to you and sorry to hear about your predicament.

If we knew the type of work you do, it might help.
It's hard to imagine what it would be like without a place to stay that's one's own.
I'm in Jersey. If this is in any way in your picture, p.m. me and I'll see what I can come up with.

(7,932 posts)but they are lucky that they have a building manager who's willing to work with them. I think its because they live in a crime ridden area and they are one of the only people in the apartment that have not had the police involved in the last year.

(14,276 posts)Bankruptcy last year, and foreclosure earlier this year. Had to take a large pay cut, but I'm working.
I keep the rent paid, utilities turned on, medical bills when I can.
Hang tough. It's times like this that you learn you can survive a lot more than you thought you ever could.

(3,419 posts)Hell going broke and losing everything is not so bad I have done it 3 times now. As a matter of fact I kind of like it in a strange way. I always find a way to survive just like you will. Last year my business partner and I did over a million in construction sales we were so proud.
This year we found out he has cancer and the treatments cost everything we had earned and now we are broke and lost our business. But he still has cancer and we have no money left. Being broke is not bad just think of what he is facing. Cancer sucks shit.

(37,648 posts)If it helps, I'm 58 years old, but I was able to find another job (at a decreased salary). So I have hopes for you, since it sounds like you are young.
I hope yu have somewhere to move to? I feel for your dad, also. How awful.
I don't know how young you are, but when I was young, I had problems like that, too, and got paid squat. Still, you have now seen (as I have seen) that it's important, as you get older, to build up an emergency savings account, so that you can support yourself for 6 months, if you have to. Everyone is at risk of losing his job, as we've all seen in the last few years.
Let us know what happens. DU people are incredibly supportive. I hope you land on your feet soon.
TIP: The economy is doing okay here in Dallas TX. There are jobs here, depending on what you do.
