http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/crime/cops-nm-men-plotted-to-kill-bieberThey had it planned down to the ties they were going to use to strangle to the pop star and three other people. A warning, the details are pretty graphic.
Justin Bieber played for a sold out house just a few weeks at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Thats where investigators say Mark Staake and his nephew Tanner Ruane planned to take down the teen sensation.
Turns out their Bieber fever started long ago, at the state prison near Las Cruces.
Thats where Staake met Dana Martin, a convicted killer serving two life sentences for raping and killing a 15-year-old girl in Vermont, in 2000.
Martin recruited Staake who in turn recruited his nephew to carry out four murders after Staake got out of prison. Cops say Martin asked the two to first go to Vermont and take out two former acquaintances.
He gave strict orders to strangle the victims with a paisley tie, the kind Martin used as his calling card, and here is where things get grisly.
Tanner Ruane was in charge of castrating the victims.
Martin told cops there was a bigger plot, the murder and castration of Bieber and his bodyguard. Turns out Martin is obsessed with Bieber and KRQE News 13 has learned he's even got a tattoo of the superstar on his leg.
Staake was arrested in Vermont on outstanding warrants before carrying out any of the killings, but his nephew was let go.
Cops recorded phone calls where Ruane, who made it to New York, tells Martin he's disappointed he couldn't carry out the murders.
New York police arrested Ruane, who had murder tools and pruning shears with him.
KRQE News 13 tried to contact Justin Bieber's representatives Tuesday, but did not get a call back.
Martin actually turned in Staake and Ruane and for some mysterious reason foiled the plot he cooked up.

(30,745 posts)but I have an Aussie friend who calls this "tall poppy syndrome."
The kid is cute, successful, and the girls love him. He has dared to hold his head higher than the other poppies in the field, so someone feels compelled cut him down.

(10,718 posts)If I don't like a performer's work I ignore it. Why call a kid a "talentless hack who can't sing?" I'm not a fan myself, but I believe Justin Beiber developed a following based on people liking how he sang.
In any case, hating to the point of wanting to mutilate and murder is about as pathological as it gets, and likely has nothing to do with singing ability.
white_wolf
(6,238 posts)That's why I don't like him. That and like I said any 18 year old kid who says he has contributed more to music than the Beatles deserves to get made fun of. Most people don't like arrogant celebrities. However, none of what I says justifies even joking about killing the kid, but I was replying to the general question of why he is so strongly disliked by a lot of people. He's kind of like the Twilight of singers. Soulless drivel meant to appeal to pre-teen and teenage girls that is given far too much popularity.

(10,718 posts)...so I wonder if its not like so many things Obama is supposed to have said, which evaporate into mazes of hysterical RW slander when you look for facts?
Cleita
(75,480 posts)and have a following. That's a talent in itself. That doesn't justify killing him in any book. He's an entertainer! He hasn't harmed anyone in his short life.

(6,238 posts)I wasn't trying to justify that or any of the jokes made about it. Someone asked why the guy is so disliked in general and I gave my opinion on why so many people seem annoyed by him.

(20,818 posts)would sigh and roll their eyes whenever my same-age stepsister and I would go gaga over Shaun Cassidy, our generation's version of Bieber. And I'm sure that twenty-thirty years from now Bieber's legions will find themselves feeling the same way.
Then again, this is the brat who wanted MN Sen. Amy Klobuchar jailed for proposing some law or policy he disgreed with (can't remember what it was now), slimy little fascist snot who can't even sing.

(20,818 posts)memories for this late-forties-something gal, lol! There were several years when I lived for that magazine and Cassidy, Garret, Parker Stevenson, Wesley Eure, etc., etc. Gads, I cringe to think of it now, lol. I remember seeing Cassidy in concert in '77, when he was on the Hardy Boys; you could barely hear him through all the screaming, which my stepsis and I were, of course, contributing to. lol.

(10,718 posts)as there's a vein of hate running through the schools over him too. A girl in her school is going to see one of his concerts and has been picked on. Mine seemed to be buying into the gang mentality and arguing that it was perfectly natural...ugh, teenagers. At least she's at an age where she still can learn, and still cares about being on the "good" side.
She played me one of his songs on youtube, as I don't know his music. He has a well trained voice, a sweetness and innocence. Why that brings out the worst in some people I don't get either.

(8,747 posts)As far back as I remember, people have always been attacking verbally and in print, whomever is the current "teen heartthrob" popular with adolescent and teenage girls. I remember it with Elvis, then The Beatles and continues to this day. Probably goes further back than that, to a young Frank Sinatra, or even further.
I think it's just jealousy and hatred of someone who is popular with nubile females. Lots of unspoken undercurrents of "Oh my god, these girls are just going crazy over this guy, and that must mean they want to have sex with him!"
Look at how some people are obsessing over the "Twilight" novels. Novels aimed at nubile females seem to attract a great deal of disdain.
And I use the term "nubile" deliberate, as in this context.

(22,143 posts)I remember when I was 14 all the girls had pictures of Matt Dillon and Rob Lowe and so on and would swoon over them and we (the boys) "hated" them (the stars) for it. We would disparage them and all but no one openly wished for their deaths.
It wasn't the sort of vicious hatred that is directed at this Bieber kid. It's not limited to what would be his sexual rivals. I see adults and kids alike savaging him on Facebook, saying the worst possible things and salivating over the notion of his torture and death. It's beyond anything I've ever seen and I just don't get that.
I've never listened to any of his music but I'm sure he can't be that bad of a singer.
I hope he has a good security team because the hate is out of hand.

He most certainly does not deserve to have some sort of hit squad trying to murder him.
