Tonight, just as she does every year, Barbara Walters will unveil the list of ten people she found most fascinating this year. Later, Time Magazine will announce its person of the year.
First, who do DU members think will be Barbara Walters' most fascinating person and Time Magazine's person of the year. Second, who do DU members think were the most fascinating people of the year and the person of the year.
At first, I thought Walters would pick Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot on her school bus because she advocated for girls to be allowed to go to school; However, the more I think about it the less I think Walters will pick Yousafzai. Maybe Gabby Douglas, female gymnast, will get the top spot, but it seems that it has already been mentioned that she is on the list so she might not be at the spot.
There is a chance that Time Magazine will name the EU as person of the year because of its support of austerity measures. Maybe Angela Merkel, also for her support of austerity measures. It could also be the American voter or American people because of the election. Even though most of the effect will be felt in 2013 and beyond the effect can also be felt this year. Finally, Time might name people in general because of the protests that brought about numerous changes around the world.
For most fascinating person my pick would be the people, either by themselves or with charities, who tried to make their communities better. I think either the American voter or people in general should be named Time Magazine's person of the year. Both the American voter and people worldwide have had to most affect on the world due to the changes caused by voting and protesting.
So, who do DU members think were the most fascinating people of the year and the person of the year?
