Apparently the Jamie Foxx movie "Django Unchained" has really set off the racist right-wing in this country. Emblazoned across the top of Drudge in large bold print is the headline 'N*GGER. N*GGER. N*GGER. N*GGER. N*GGER. N*GGER. N*GGER.' that links to a review of the movie.

The only time the 'N-word' is even used in the review, it is to point out that although the term does appear frequently in the movie, it is used in historical perspective. Even then, the term used is 'N-word' and not 'N*GGER' as on Drudge's site. Of course Drudge knows that by merely dropping a letter from the word, and not using the 'N-word' term, he's throwing red meat out to his racist sycophants.
Of course, for race-baiters like Drudge, all they care about is that this gives them a chance to use the N-word. They bring up the tired old arguments like "how come they get to use that word but we can't". Indeed, all you have to do is look at some of the reader comments to see the racism boiling over. (I've always thought you could tell when an article has been linked on a conservative site by the jump in racist comments)

(13,218 posts)- Replace the "D" with an "A"
- Replace the "r" with an "ss"
- Replace the "u" with an "h"
- Replace the "d" with an "o"
- Replace the "g" with an "l"
- Leave the "e" alone
It's just that easy.

(10,340 posts)A few days ago, there was a headline on Drudge complaining that the movie is about "killing white people".
I wonder how many times Drudge has protested a movie in which black people are killed.

(620 posts)Drudge thinks that by being the ringleader they won't turn on him. They'll never accept him and they'll throw him overboard as soon as they get the chance.

(75,480 posts)It was used prodigiously then too, because it was the way people, both white and black talked back then although it still was pejorative to use it.

(1,941 posts)You write n*gger, is there something about removing a vowel that makes it less offensive? Would it be even less offensive to write it n*gg*r? Why not ***** and let us guess what he was called?
N-word, n*gger, either way we know it's meant to be nigger. It's as silly as writing G-d to avoid offense. Wait, what?
I just don't understand dancing around words. Is it something to use in polite company? No. But if it has context and relevance to the discussion, let's be adults about it.

(10,340 posts)N*GGER is exactly how Drudge phrased it in his headlines
Even though the article that he links to actually uses the phrase 'N-word'.
To me, his phrasing is a deliberate attempt to evocate the racist tendencies of many of his readers. Drudge is in the business of propaganda, after all. He chooses his words and phrasing very carefully.

(66,388 posts)Removing a vowel does not make it less offensive. But I think removing the vowel (or two) is a written recognition that it is an offensive term; in a way asking the reader's forgiveness for using it.

(28,264 posts)I was fortunate enough to be raised in a household where racist terms were not allowed to be uttered. I also knew other people who routinely used the term "n***er toes" for brazil nuts. I choose that spelling to clearly differentiate myself from such people.
