Public on Obama’s side in tax-hike drive, poll finds

Some bad news for Republicans trying to hold back tax increases on the wealthy as part of a fiscal cliff deal: A Politico/George Washington University Battleground Poll finds that 60% of likely American voters favor raising taxes on households making more than $250,000 a year.

That support dovetails neatly with President Barack Obama’s position – a stance that some Republicans are grudgingly coming around to….

The poll found that only 38% believe the Republicans’ argument that raising taxes on households earning more than $250,000 would hurt the economy, whereas 58% don’t buy it…..

as long as theres no cuts to SS, Medicare, or Medicaid.

If any of those happen he will lose most of them.

2. Just looked at the whole poll. One thing that's interesting

Is that when you ask if the government should "cut spending across the board", it gets almost 70% approval. But then when you name individual programs to cut like Medicare and Social Security it's much lower. I think other polls have found the same to be true for other programs.

It's discouraging that only 37% of voters in the poll support defense cuts. They are always tough politically because people don't realize how much waste is in the defense budget.
