Stephen Colbert Leading In South Carolina Poll To Replace Jim DeMint In Senate

He'd be a heck of an improvement over Dimwit.

Stephen Colbert is the favorite choice of South Carolinians to replace Jim DeMint, who is vacating his U.S. Senate seat at the end of the year.

According to a new poll released Monday afternoon by Public Policy Polling, Colbert tops the wish list of possible Senate replacements, with 20 percent polled wishing to send him to the Senate. His closest runner-up is Tim Scott at 15 percent.

Colbert is a South Carolina native (he's even been named the state's "favorite son&quot and has a history of lodging stunt campaigns, so when DeMint announced his retirement from the Senate, many expected Colbert to launch a tongue-in-cheek campaign for Gov. Nikki Haley to appoint him to the seat.

Last Thursday, he commanded his viewers to tweet the governor messages of support. But by Friday, Haley told Colbert via a Facebook message that he would not be appointed, due to the fact that he couldn't name the state's official beverage when she was a guest on "The Colbert Report." (By the way, it's milk.)

He won't be appointed, that is silly to think.

But he should actually put his money where his mouth is like Al Franken and do it for the good of the country.
Greed or Valor? The choice is his.

He once said, back when he was doing his radio show, that if he came up with a good joke that would hurt the Democrats, he wouldn't use it. Colbert's first loyalty is to the truth as he sees it. That's the difference between a satirist and a propagandist.

he should get off his ass and do the grunt work and run himself, or forever he will be seen as a big talker, but nothing more.

BTW, I loved, really loved, his version with Jimmy Fallon of "Fridays" the Rebecca Black song last year
It actually showed how great a song that was.

He can do way more damage to the people with the real power from his TV studio than he ever could in the Senate.

that could win as easily

winning is all that matters.

And while he can do "damage" as you say, I am more interested in achieving forward motion positively, not through "damage" to others.

Because that still doesn't get stuff passed.

And its in the red states we need superstar entertainers to enter and win with major money in each race (like Ashley Judd should run in Kentucky against Rand Paul)
imho

I love Colbert but what qualifications does he have? None that I can see.

And really, why give up his cushy multi-million dollar gig for that cesspool? It's crazy.

There are folks that can't begin to write legislation and rubber stamp ALEC "model laws" on a daily basis.

There are no qualifications any more. Actors, pro football players, and pro wrestlers get elected.

Colbert is immensely qualified given recent history. His head has been in the political game more than many other candidates.

Once he was invited to speak at a dinner where G W Bush was present. Bush was not happy afterwards. One of Colbert's remarks was about reality having a liberal bias.

Colbert pretends to be a right-wing dimwit, but actually isn't.

(he is said by everyone to be very devoted to his family and to the many causes/charities he supports), he is very intelligent (hell -- his satirical humor goes right over the heads of some on the right -- I still can't believe that there are still some hapless types over at FR who think he is a REAL republican). How sad is that??
