the Happiest Place on Earth.
As of today, it's legal in Washington State for adults over 21 to possess up to 1 ounce of cannabis

(24,736 posts)want to rain on our big freakin' PARADE! (Lucky Washingtonian here!)
What do others think about how they (feds) will approach this?

(12,958 posts)They will threaten to arrest state employees that carry out the law. That is how they closed down the dispensary law that was passed when Gregoire was governor. They said they would arrest and charge any state employee that assisted dispensaries in any way (like processing submitted paperwork) with federal crimes. Because of this Gregoire did not sign the law and instead watered it down to allow non profit 'co-ops'.

Really this state needs to legalize cocaine, or something that isn't a natural depressant.

(12,958 posts)It might rain for two weeks here, but get only one inch. Sometimes it's almost like mist falling.
The Olympic peninsula is a different animal though, straight up rain forest.

(11,476 posts)Wenatchee is redder than red...I actually had someone threaten a dog on me while getting out the vote last time.
My town is still conservative (not as bad though) but because of all the tourists we have Seattlites here off and on, good restaurants, theater and art. We have new hospital and indoor therapy pool. And Wenatchee is just 35 min away for the big stuff and Costco!
Most of us live about a mile out of town so we only see tourists when we want to and go to town mid week. We have a great farmers market in the summer.
Great hiking around to and skiing is not far away and cross country right here in town!
by the way even though my county didn't vote for obama it voted for pot! lol

(64,933 posts)There was an Italian place that was really good (Can't remember the name --> NOT OLIVE GARDEN). Very touristy, but a cool little place in the mountains.

(24,736 posts)the "Cascade Curtain" actually falls EAST of Leavenworth! Restaurants and culture there (Leavenworth) is more akin to Seattle than to our desert oasis!

(24,736 posts)I live just north of Wenatchee, work there.
And just got down from our fabulous ski hill - Mission Ridge! Thank goddess there is snow up there (4-6,000 ft.!). Chases the blues away for sure. No snow yet down low though, to speak of.
Another DUer (we might be the only few) would be more than welcome!
How do you know Wenatchee?

(64,933 posts)I was working on a job in Quincy (no, it had nothing to do with Apples -- [comment redacted]) and there was really nowhere to stay there. So I had a 35 mile drive over to Quincy from Wenatchee.
I drove up to Mission Ridge a couple of time. Incredible views!

(24,736 posts)We live up towards Chelan in the Entiat Valley. Cool to make your acquaintance! Beautiful part of the country, isn't it (though very red...politically more like Idaho than like Seattle).
I grew up in the northeast. Have loved living out west for 30+ years!

(75,480 posts)They have come a long way since the day in 1968 when my girl friend and I were visiting and decided we would like a beer. We were not allowed to sit in a bar without a gentleman escort. The bartender explained it was the law. As a pair of budding women's rights activists we were shocked at how backwards they were. Now Washington has surpassed us Californians in liberal causes.

(14,910 posts)I mean, as it sits right now; growing, sale and distribution is not legal; nor is using in public.
The casual nature of this OP is appalling.
This OP is a black eye on the alternatives to pharmaceutical activist and makes the decriminalization/legalization activists appear to be nothing more than a few tee-hee-hee "potheads"
TeamPooka
(24,229 posts)you are allowed to tell a joke or two.
Along with a subtle point or two buried in it like how the cannabis-ness would create jobs and help the economy.
The strident nature of your post and your lack of a sense of humor is what is appalling to me.
IMHE, being holier-than-thou and preachy like you about issues never wins hearts and minds to your cause.
You do it your way and I'll do it mine. To each their own.

(14,910 posts)Where the hour-long process of vomitng dry heaves from pharmaceutical induced agony from clinical research drugs are your loved one's final mortal legacy?
Excuse me if I take this a little more seriously than you and your pothead prohibition celebration.
Fuck a sense of humor. This is about the dignity and quality of life for terminally ill human beings who were by no luck or wish of their own, given a disease that they have no control over before it's about prohibition to twenty/thirty-something recreational users.
There is no humor in advocacy of a common sense approach to deregulation and reclassification of marijuana laws in the United States.

(37,648 posts)Because something legal has a good effect on someone's health doesn't mean it can't also be used for recreation, does it? Alcohol has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries, but it also has a recreational use.

(6,530 posts)In places where it's legal to drink alcohol, it's also legal to use pot.
The growth and distribution issues will take some time, but I'm hoping we'll figure them out sooner rather than later.
