I change my mind - Stephen Colbert for US Senate, South Carolina

Let's face it, this guy has a political keeness that I think we could use in the US Senate. He's already from South Carolina, I believe he still votes in South Carolina and I think he would make an amazing US Senator. Plus he has strong name recognition.

I figured the first reason he might not run of course is the popularity of his show. Colbert is just scathingly funny playing a right-wing pundit and really shows the world the stupidity of the typical news shows you'd find on Faux News. A solution could be having someone else fill in for him while he runs for US Senate. Someone like Samantha Bee could step in for his show doing a female version of Colbert.

Of course there is that entertainment factor that could go against him. Even Al Franken barely eeked his way into his US Senate seat and obviously for Colber it would be a close race.

I would agree - if he ran as an 'I' he'd have to stay as one LynneSin Dec 2012 #6

Maybe some of the rightwingers who don't get that his act is satire will vote for him. (He can always change to a D after the election.)

He can caucus just as easily caucus with the Democrats while remaining an Independent. Just like Bernie Sanders and the new fellow from Maine. The people of South Carolina would not appreciate such a bait-and-switch, either.
