Marking the 23rd anniversary of Ecole Polytechnique massacre

http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/marking-the-23rd-anniversary-of-ecole-polytechnique-massacre-1.1068300

Flags have been lowered to half-staff at Ecole Polytechnique to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of a deadly shooting at the school.

In what has become an annual tradition, at 9 a.m. 14 white roses will be deposited in front of a plaque honouring the dead.

In Montreal, the Quebec women's federation will mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on violence against women with a ceremony at noon in front of the Montreal courthouse.

On Dec. 6, 1989, Marc Lepine entered the engineering school and killed 14 women, shot and injured ten more women, and shot four men before taking his own life. He left behind a note saying he blamed feminists for ruining his life.

I was working at a Canadian university at the time and our campus was in complete shock.

Some activists, including the late Jack Layton, started up the White Ribbon Campaign, partly in response to the massacre

The Federal government passed a private member's bill which designates today as a National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Flags at all federal buildings fly at half-staff today, in memory of those killed in Montreal.

Thanks for starting the thread.

"We have given him enough publicity. Out of respect for the victims, the killer should be completely anonymous."

As soon as the prep's trial is over and/or the prep is dead his name should, also, end.

But I still think that's an excellent quote.
