Is it time for Democrats to re-name Jefferson-Jackson Day events?

I have a hard time believing that, in 2012, we would still pick a genocidal scumbag like Andrew Jackson as one of only two Democrats whose name we honor in our annual celebrations, and it's always surprised me that there isn't more of movement to change the name of the event.

As a slaveholder, Jefferson was no saint, either, but the Trail of Tears and indian removal alone should disqualify Jackson.

With two centuries of Democrats to chose from, Jackson should not be anywhere near the top of the list.

Besides, the legacy of FDR to our nation and to our party greatly dwarfs any of Jackson's deeds that could be considered honorable. It's time for Democrats to embrace Roosevelt as the greatest Democratic president that he is.

Perhaps a switch to a Jefferson-Roosevelt Day or even a Roosevelt-Kennedy Day is long overdue.

Like it or not, first Jefferson and then Jackson are the two men most associated with what became the Democratic Party. Franklin Roosevelt interned Japanese Americans; John F Kennedy was a staunch supporter of Tailgunner Joe McCarthy. Both just as flawed but in different ways (and just as much the product of their own times and circumstances).

2. YES! we should have an FDR day a LBJ day a Jimmy Carter day and a Barack Obama day

Jefferson was perhaps the ultimate #1 hypocrite of all time.
He is like Lance Armstrong, deserving of having any platitudes stripped from him forever.

The nation needs to become aware in great detail of his lies and how he kept slaves and abused the female slaves he had.

Strip his day and awards.

LBJ and FDR need to be honored.

and a big NO to Truman.

3. Not only were Jackson's actions with the Indian Removal Act immoral they were illegal.

The Supreme Court ruled the act unconstitutional and Jackson's response was "John Marshal has made his decision now let's see him enforce it." Jackson was scum.

4. He was loved by those who have passed on..

and we, their kids, love him too. It's time our kids and grandchildren got to know President Roosevelt.
