I can't understand why all these Conservatives are so against taxing the rich. If you take your typical Conservative, they aren't rich and probably living pay check to pay check. They have nothing in common with the wealthy. They are fighting against their own self interest agreeing with the GOP against taxing the wealthy. It doesn't make sense.

I tell them that the GDP was twice as high when the top tax rate was twice as high on the rich and they are dumbfound or they say "yeah but nobody paid that rate".

We need economic history included in our schools but there is about as much chance of that as labor history being taught.
