They want cuts in medicare, etc for the middle class - so that would be a win for them.
Taxes, etc would go up for everyone. They wouldn't care about the middle class - so that would be another win for them.
So, the only thing I see that the Republicans would lose would be a slight increase in taxes for the rich. I am NOT talking about the extra increase that the Perez wants for the 1% people.
Back to my original question - what do the Republicans have to lose from going over the fiscal cliff - other than a little public opinion. And because most people don't know anything about politics, the President will get blamed for everything that is bad.
I can only conclude that the Republican opposition is only an act, a pretense. Their mouthpieces will show TV clips of Boner and the rest of them stating how against new taxes they were.
Remember this is the same bunch that got most people to agree to a war by lieing and innuendo.
I believe we will go over the cliff and the Republicans will have won.
The President is falling into a trap.

(19,877 posts)2 things they despise. Going over the fiscal cliff is a lose/lose for the GOP because Obama has put an offer on the table & they will look like obstructionists, take the blame, & get humiliated in 2014.

(19,877 posts)Because they will be negotiating at an already higher tax rate i.e. the Dems can then introduce a bill to lower taxes on the 98% and DARE the GOP to vote NO on lowering just middle class taxes. This could get humiliating for the Republicans.

(12,272 posts)Obama is telling the people to tell Congress to not fuck this up, while Rs are saying, through the M$M, that he is just still on the campaign trail. Didn't you get the Y2K, "Your two thousand dollars", email? Obama will win this one.
