What would Jesus do?

Probably this.

I know this has been seen endlessly, but it is simply so damned touching and "feel good." The 25 year old cop never asked for one whit of recognition. He just did it because, I expect, that's the kind of kind young man he is.

Thanks, Officer DePrimo, for showing us what good guys do.

2. You can tell the worth of a person by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.

My dad taught me that a long time ago. That cop is a holy man/Christian/Buddhist...whether he knows it or not. "Whatever you have done unto one of the least of these, my brethern, you have done unto me." Jesus.

that fact is that the homeless man really does have something to give to Officer DePrimo too, something that the officer can likely receive from no one else.

and in this case it was an officer doing something great. Not an officer or officers beating and pepper-spraying people.

Please, please everyone keep taking these pics along with those others. We all need a dose of "police are good and human" every once in a while.

Nobody points something like a camera at a cop facing you from 15 feet away without the officer noticing.

Doubly so if the person holding the camera is a PR rep from another police department.

19. She was an AZ tourist in NY Times Square taking a pic of this with her cell phone cam...

She happens to have a father in the Police Dept in AZ and sent the pic to the NYC dept of the officer. AND even if this is some sort of PR stunt to make the police look better in the eyes of the public, I don't think people are so naive as to all of a sudden embrace the idea that the police are all so benign and wonderful people. It just shows a good person doing a good deed for another human being. Maybe more people with a good natured spirit and want to "keep the peace" would look to join the police dept. Thoughtful people without a power hungry Napoleon complex should be recruited into the police ranks. People who feel a connection with the community and look to solve issues are needed more than the assholes looking to beat the shit out of the homeless man... (which is something that was just caught on camera in FL - I think St Pete).

If we would like to see a change in the way police do the job of serving and protecting and being peace officers, those who have goodness in them should enter the police force to work their way up thru the ranks and help to change the corruption and direction of how police do policing in the first place.

20. Not just happens to have a father in the Police Department...

"The photo was taken by Jennifer Foster, a civilian communications director for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona."

That's a PR rep.

That doesn't mean it's not 'real', but coupled with the fact that most NY city police officers know the guy in the photo, and know he doesn't wear shoes, even in blistering snow, and hasn't worn shoes for years, plus that...

I just wish each 'copy' of the story (including the 'description' by the person who shot the photo) included the full disclosure of the nature of the person taking the photo, the guy in the photo, etc, so it didn't start to smell suspicious when people dig into the story.

Giving shoes to a guy that won't wear shoes in a snowdrift seems like a nice gesture I guess, but getting him to stay at a shelter, or something like that would be better.

....."Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, my brethren, ye have done it unto ME,"
which I was taught to mean that you should treat people in need as if they were Jesus, Himself. ...that it just might be him! I was an impressionable young child and took it to heart. Don't darken the church doors anymore, but I did learn quite a few good things that I practice to this very day.

"It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I cannot take seriously. I also cannot imagine some will or goal outside the human sphere.... Science has been charged with undermining morality, but the charge is unjust. A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

It sucks though because I was watching the news here in Tampa tonight and one of the stories is about the cops here slamming a homeless guy into a wall an roughing him up. Thankfully it was all caught on video and the homeless guy hopefully won't have any money problems from here on out.

This is still a great story and makes me think there are still good cops out there.

I wonder, though, why that shoe store the homeless man is sitting in front of didn't step up and provide shoes and socks for the man. It's a shoe store. The man is sitting in front of it with no shoes. Can't be good for business, either. I admire the policeman for his kind action, but think this should have been solved earlier by the manager of that shoe store.
