(26,268 posts)I got to meet VP Gore, during the Kerry campaign. I found him to be a really nice, funny and warm guy - nothing like how he was being portrayed. But, I admit I've had a long time political 'crush' on Joe Biden. That many's intelligence, warmth, capability and sincerity seem to flow right through the TV screen. I would definitely love to sit down and have a couple of beers with Joe Biden.

(24,931 posts)but I have to give a hat-tip to my two native sons: Humphrey and Mondale. I've met Mondale on many occasions here in Minnesota.

(33,497 posts)have really been outstanding. Humphrey was good, too, but LBJ kept him on too much of a leash.

(26,355 posts)People think he's the "gaffe machine" and think he's a moron, but the truth is that he's one of the most formidable people in Washington - he's a hell of a fighter.
Just look how he ate Paul Ryan for breakfast in the VP debate.

(53,035 posts)I have to go for the Happy Warrior. I know LBJ shackled him on Vietnam, but Humphrey was a very good man.

(13,227 posts)Served as VP under Van Buren. And also the only VP candidate who couldn't score the minimum electoral votes needed, and was elected by the Senate. The reason? Virginia's electors wouldn't vote for him. Why? Must have been his wife (common law), who just happened to be a mixed-race former slave. This was such a dealbreaker for the slave states that Van Buren ran for reelection in 1840 without a running mate on the ticket.
