Could DU use IMVU or Second Life to raise money?

These are 3D chat worlds that have virtual economies whose currency can be exchanged for real USD.

I know the admins at DU have brainstormed fund raising in the past.

Does anyone know if they considered setting up a presence in one of these virtual worlds and then charging entry fees for events (like election and debate parties) in the currency in one of those worlds and then exchanging it for real USD's?

Think DU could get enough people to join in that?

Plus, during high traffic times, it would split the bandwidth usage up between DU and the 3D chat world, reducing stress on the DU servers, no?.

I doubt that all that many DUers would sign up for that. MineralMan Nov 2012 #1

I know I don't have time for a virtual life. I barely have time for the life I'm trying to get.

it would be hardly any different from spending your time at DU or there. If you already spend a lot of time at DU, it's just a change of scenery.

The amount of time required just to get used to the environment was prohibitive for me much less figuring out how to set up a fundraising center. As far as I can tell Second Life and IMVU are have minimal market penetration at this time. Facebook is far more effective.
