Many apologies to Rachel, about my mistake (I was clicking between DWTS and MSNBC last night during both Rachel's and Lawrence's shows). But everything clicked in place for me when I heard the theory. It makes total sense from a purely raw, naked political standpoint. I believe it. And I'll tell you what else I believe, I think Obama knows that Susan's rice is cooked. I don't mean any disrespect in this at all, but it's true. And I don't believe for a second that it'll be Kerry that Obama would be checked into picking at this point. I think he's smart enough to checkmate the rethugs with another move that they couldn't block.

And get this, Big Ed was saying that it was out on the Beltway today that Chuck Hagel's being vetted for a "cabinet position". Check. Mate.

We can not allow the GOP even one more Senate seat! There are other good candidates out there. What about George Mitchell? What about Dick Durbin and then in Illinois, the Governor (Democrat Pat Quinn)could appoint someone (Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan) to Durbin's seat. What about Joe Binden and then make Hillary the VP? Could Bill Clinton do it? Maybe these are not the best choices and Susan Rice deserves it, but I'm trying to point out that John Kerry is not the only one who can effectively do the job and Rachel is right: the GOP wants this so they have a shot again in MA. DON'T DO IT!

The Senator is more valuable than just one additional vote. And, I don't know if you were around when Clinton was appointed SOS, but she gave up her senator seat to accept this post. It was later won by a Democrat, just as Senator Kerry's would if he were to leave.

The entire tin foil hat theory is rediculious. This whole theory suggests that Brown was so liked and his seat so needed that theses Republicans would go to extemes to take a chance on him being able to get back in the Senate. LOL. And, it doesn't explain Senator Collins concerns today. She didn't campaign for Brown.
If you want to go with the idea that they are pushing for Senator Kerry. maybe it is because they worked with him and respect his work in foreign policy and believe that he is the better choice for Secretary of State. But, even as much as I want to see Senator Kerry get this position, I find it highly unplausiable that they would go to such great lenghs to support him, and I feel the same way when it comes to Brown. I'd like to see Clinton stay on for about six months, into President Obama's second term. And only hear crickets from the WH about who he will nominate or when, in that entire time. That would drive them totally around the bend - hopefully...
