2. I wish his question had been framed slightly differently

Something like: "How would a $2000 tax hike impact your ability to contribute to the economy?"

In other words, I wish it would be about the country's well-being and not just each of our disconnected personal financial interests. Because it would affect the country, not just "you": students defaulting on loans, people having less to spend in the wider economy, etc. I just wish it would emphasize that government is about both personal and communal interests, and not just the former.

. . . I think it's perfectly correct to ask individuals within that group to speak out.
