GOP+corporate lobbyists want to hike retirement age to 70. That's life expectancy for black men

Key fact to fight back on this.

When you break down the situation by race, it gets even worse. While some politicians clamor for the retirement age to be raised to 70, the life expectancy of black males is only 70.8, according to the latest data from the U.S. National Vital Statistics System. That’s nearly six years behind non-Hispanic white men, whose life expectancy is 76.2.

Thus, raising the retirement age wouldn’t just disproportionately hurt blue collar workers, it would disproportionately harm African American men. We should not be considering policies that would have such a harmful impact.

People can't get hired once they hit 50.

The older you are when you get laid off, the less likely you are to find another job.

What are they supposed to do for 20 years?

Panhandle?

Starve?

Before we know it, life expectancy will be 55 years.

Recieved her first SS check and died that month. Her dad died before rcvg anything.

Only my mom & her sister have lived to get SS checks. So let's see, that is 14 people all told paying in with two who have recieved SS benefits.

It's actually morphed into a much larger program than originally envisaged.

He set the retirement age at 65, because that was the average life-expectancy in Germany at the time.
