https://masto.ai/@rbreich/112339013687555000America's 813 billionaires now collectively hold a record $5.8 trillion. Thats more than the wealth of the entire bottom half of the US, roughly 65 million households. It's not radical to tax the rich. It's radical to allow this level of wealth concentration to continue.

(24,694 posts)1. If we taxed 10% of that, we'd pay off the national debt in 20 years.
20% in 10 years, and so on.
And they'd still benefit like bandits, in the long run.

(16,134 posts)2. Yep. All the money would flow upward to them
but it'd be nice for it to go through some more hands before they get it.
The rich will always get theirs, but WE, the people who spend our income are the drivers of the economy.

(24,694 posts)3. Indeed...we are the economic drivers.
The super rich can buy super yaghts, but that's a one-off. Millions buy the durable goods, and homes and the groceries that are the real engine of our continuing economy.
I wish every rich bastard thought like Mark Cuban.

(3,007 posts)5. I'm not sure that calculation is true, especially considering we add to the Debt $1.5+ Trillion every year.
Wish it were true but its not.
If you took the whole $5.8 T wealth, youd still have $25T Debt, and nothing to tax the billionaires next year.

There's a war out there and RW Billionaires are funding the war against Democracy. Fucking Idiots.
