We need something like a ten year term limit for Federal Judges and Supreme Court Justices. They are too unaccountable with lifetime appointments.

(1,850 posts)Because it provides for lifetime appointments. I like that provisionits one of the great things about our countries form of government

(47,495 posts)Who are too lazy to come up plausible lies for their corruption.
Too busy living a life of luxury and security others can only dream about.
On the billionaire dole with lifetime jobs.
And we see they have the power to destroy our democracy and install a dictator.
And literally force doctors to throw dying women in hospital parking lots to die.
Total disgrace.

(1,850 posts)And no actual argument. Every federal judge has a lifetime appointment not just SC justices. And how is the Supreme Court forcing doctors to do anything? The states make the laws.

(47,495 posts)Women thrown into parking lots to die. They are just hyperbole?
The SC helping to install Trump into the WH is just hyperbole?

(1,850 posts)The SC didnt pass any state laws about abortion one way or the other. And how in the world did the SC install Trump in 2016?

(538 posts)The Supreme Court struck down Roe versus Wade. Very obvious ideologically driven move. This allowed states to outlaw abortion. A direct impact of that decision.

(538 posts)It was however clearly driven by political ideology, not legal precedent. Roe v Wade was established law for decades and decades. It was struck down for partisan reasons, not due to any sort of established legal principle.

(1,850 posts)And the principles were explained in Dobbs. We can agree or disagree with the decision, but unless theres an argument that it violated the Constitution then its tough to argue the Court was wrong.
Separate but equal was also the law for decades. Was the Supreme Court wrong in reversing that ruling?

(47,640 posts)So why are they catering to Donald Trump now? He has no power over them and we know they don't really like him.
Are some of the conservative justices afraid of something? Does Trump and/or Putin have kompromat on them? Something is really fishy here. They shouldn't have taken the case in the first place and now that they have, they are all over the place with it, apparently to delay a trial(s) even longer.
Something just ain't right here and they know that legal scholars all over the country know something stinks.
CitizenZero
(538 posts)No one needs kompromat on them. They are in Trump's pocket because they were appointed because of their extreme political ideology. This is why we need term limits. To renew the Supreme Court on a regular basis and get rid of people with little to no accountability.
For example, it is clear that Clarence Thomas has been accepting what is essentially a series of bribes from a rich conservative that has interests before the Court. The only way to hold Thomas accountable right now would be an impeachment. That is highly unlikely and there is little or no precedent. If there were a term limit, we could remove corrupt or compromised Justices. A good Justice could be nominated again. A bad Justice would hopefully be blocked from another term.

(47,640 posts)not even an idealogue. He has no real political philosophy. He is just a vulgar, unstable man who will do or say anything that serves him. Trump in power primarily serves Trump. If it serves anyone else, that is incidental and very likely to change at his whim. Some of these justices are acting like they are afraid of something.
I agree, it is unlikely that Thomas will be impeached. One would hope that he would resign, but it appears that probably won't happen any time soon unless he has health issues. I remember a time when people resigned when they were publicly disgraced. Apparently those days are over. Now they just double-down and defy anyone to do anything about it.
