Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) called on the president of Columbia University to do her job or resign amid ongoing unrest and heightened concern for Jewish students safety on campus.
In a post on social platform X, Fetterman compared aspects of the anti-Israel protests to the infamous Charlottesville rally in 2017, when white supremacists chanted Jews will not replace us near the campus of the University of Virginia.
I fully agree with the White House these protests are antisemitic, unconscionable, and dangerous. Add some tiki torches and its Charlottesville for these Jewish students, Fetterman wrote in a statement Sunday night.
To @Columbia President Minouche Shafik: do your job or resign so Columbia can find someone who will, he continued.

and gather more information before making a statement like that.

(32,082 posts)9. It means I trust his comments more than others.
Such as those saying he should "step back" or shut up.

Then that is fine. But I did not tell him to shut up. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Ya, no. Didn't say that.

(32,082 posts)14. You told him to "step back".
What does that mean? Others have said he should shut up. That tells me they are not interested in other viewpoints or having a conversation about it.

(32,082 posts)6. He is doing his job.
Unlike many in his position who want to hide.

(45,120 posts)10. His job as a US senator is to tell a college president to resign because
he doesn't like how she's doing her job? Okay if you insist.

(15,489 posts)13. Some (not all) protesters are clearly causing trouble
Some are waving the Palestinian flag, supporting Hamas, chanting ""From the river to the sea," and covering their faces with wrappings that mimic terrorists.
As for the peaceful protests, I'm all for protesting Netanyahu without any hate. I don't support the vast majority of his actions.
