Ukraine Aid Bill Passes the Senate!!!! On the way to the President's Desk!!!

Absolutely Amazing!!! Thank God.

Edit Add In: If you are wondering where I got this, I was watching C-SPAN. They had a Cloture vote (I think it was 80 to 19? something like that), and since the bill had previously passed the Senate, what came back from the House are considered 'amendments' and the senate voted on those amendments, and thus the bill was passed.

Very surprised there are no articles about it yet.

Additional Edit: I was wrong, not actually passed yet. I apologize for jumping the gun. Schumer confused me with his victory speech thanking everyone, saying it was on the way to the president's desk, and I did read somewhere that the senate had already passed the bill and what came back from the house was considered amendments, and the senate voted for those amendments (and no need to further vote on the bill)

I WAS WRONG. I apologize.

I guess I'm not nerdy enough to understand all of the Senates procedures... even though I watch C-SPAN.

6. Cloture is a procedural vote to overcome fillibuster

A single senator can filibuster a bill, and then it takes a cloture vote to end debate and move to amendments and voting. It takes 60 votes to end debate via cloture.

Cloture does not pass the bill.

A vote on each bill will now have to be done, along with any amendments, before it can be sent to the president.

But with 80 votes, it will absolutely pass. The only question is will any mods to Israeli arms or aid make it in. There is a push to cut out a un group infiltrated by hamas and put trip wires on military aid. We will see if any amendments make it.

Senators are talking about the bill now on the floor. And that is what I thought was going to happen until Schumer was up there and indicated it was headed to the President's desk.... Very confusing.

So..... I will admit I jumped the gun if that is what happens. Either way, it is pretty sure.

10. There are articles about the vote on cloture. None on passage because passage hasn't happened yet.

The OP is mistaken in suggesting the bill has passed and is on its way to the President. That very well could happen before the end of the day, but it hasn't happened yes and criticizing the media for not reporting that something has happened when it hasn't happened is something the OP might want to reconsider.

12. I agree

I might have been too quick. That was my position originally, until Schumer was saying it was on the way to the President's desk, and thanking everyone involved.

Very confusing. I think however, that another vote must happen on the actual bill now, and that is what they are talking about now on the senate floor.

I guess they're a necessary evil. Not sure which word packs the biggest punch, though: "necessary" or "evil"?

Think 200 or more years ago when you had folks like Henry Clay or Daniel Webster take the floor and speak for hours.
